The Hercules-Werke, founded in 1886 under the name "Velozipedfabrik Marschütz & Co.", was an essential part of the Nuremberg motorbike industry. Initially the focus was on the production of bicycles. In 1928 the production of motorised two-wheelers up to a cubic capacity of 200 cc was started. This was done in close cooperation with the Schweinfurt company Fichtel & Sachs, which was known for the production of engines.
