Das Unternehmen "Hercules" wurde 1886 von Carl Marschütz als Velozipedfabrik Carl Marschütz & Co. gegründet und stellte in den Anfangsjahren bis zum Jahr 1928 Fahrräder her. Erst ab 1928 lohnte sich die Produktion von Motorrädern mit einem Hubraum unter 200 cm³ wieder. Sämtliche Motoren der Hercules-Zweiräder stammen von Fichtel & Sachs.

Mit dem Kupplungsdeckel wird der Motor auf der rechten Seite verschlossen. Unter dem Kupplungsdeckel ist der Kupplungskorb mit den Reiblamellen verbaut. Durch die Öffnung im Deckel können Kontrollen und Einstellungen an der Kupplung vorgenommen werden, ohne dass der ganze Deckel abmontiert werden muss. Passend ist der Deckel für die Sachs Motoren 50/2, 50/3 und 50/4.
