Im Gegensatz zu Einspritzanlagen, saugt der Vergaser die benötigte Menge Kraftstoff aus der Schwimmerkammer. Um den dafür nötigen Unterdruck zu erzeugen ist das Saugrohr vom Luftansaugkanal über die Mischkammer bis zum Motoranschluss meist in einem enger werdenden Kanal, einem Venturi, geformt.
Die PHVA- und PHVB-Vergaser sind gängigsten Modelle in der 50ccm Klasse. Nahezu jeder Piaggio-Motor ist damit ausgerüstet. Mit dem klassischen Aufbau und einer Vielzahl von Ausrüstungsmöglichkeiten, wie diverse Gaszug- und Chokevarianten sind diese Modelle äußerst variabel.

Dieser Vergaser wird genau in dieser Konfiguration (Düsen, Zerstäuber, Anschlüsse, usw.) in folgenden Modellen verwendet:
- Piaggio Typhoon (KAT) (Schweiz), BJ 1998, 50 ccm, 1 Zyl. - 2-Takt
Natürlich kann der Vergaser auch in anderen Modellen verwendet werden. Hierzu sind evtuell die Luftansaugung, der Motoranschluss, sowie der Anschluss für den Gaszug und den Choke anzupassen.Vergaser für 2 und 4 Takt-Motoren sollten nicht miteinander gemischt werden. Ebenso muss darauf geachtet werden, ob der Vergaser für Gemischt- oder Getrenntschmierung vorbereitet ist und ob evtl. Unterdruckanschlüsse zur Steuerung eines Benzinhahns oder einer Ölpumpe benötigt werden.
