Der Name Zündapp-Werke GmbH stammt von der Gründungsgesellschaft "ZÜNDer-APParatebau-GmbH", welche Fritz Ludwig Neumeyer 1916 zusammen mit zwei Partnern gegründet hat. Bis ins Jahr 1921 fertigten sie hauptsächlich Rüstungsgüter für Artilleriezwecke. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt stand die Motorrad bzw. Motorenproduktion im Vordergrund und es konnten 1922 die ersten Maschinen verkauft werden. Mit den Jahren stieg die Produktion und Zündapp wurde zu einer der fünf bedeutendsten Motorradfabriken in Europa.
Zur Abdeckung der linken Gehäusehälfte des Motors wird dieser Deckel verwendet. Er ist passend für Zündapp KS100. Diese Seite wird oft auch als Kickstarterseite bezeichnet, da hier der Kickstarter betätigt wird. Der Deckel schützt das Innere des Motors bzw. Getriebes vor eindringendem Schmutz.
