The Zündapp factory was founded in 1917 and was initially designed for the production of armaments. In 1921, the Zündapp Z 22 became the first motorcycle to be produced. This "motorcycle for everyone" sold very successfully in the first three years, so that by 1924 10,000 units had already been sold. Until 1984, the Zündapp company, with its long tradition, produced various mopeds and motorcycles. Due to the economic crisis in the motorcycle industry from 1955 onwards, the company had to file for insolvency after a long uphill and downhill ride.
