In a variator transmission, a centrifugal clutch ensures the power transmission between the transmission itself and the rear axle or rear wheel. As the engine speed increases, the resulting centrifugal forces push the clutch shoes outward against the clutch bell housing. These shoes are held back by springs so that they only engage the clutch above a certain speed. Tuned scooters, in particular, usually only reach their maximum power above the standard clutch engagement speed. Therefore, to achieve the best performance from starting to stopping, you need to install harder springs so that the clutch only engages at the desired power speed.
