In den 1920er Jahren war Nürnberg das Zentrum der Zweiradindustrie. Darunter auch die Velozipedfabrik Hercules, besser bekannt unter dem Namen Hercules Werke. Das Unternehmen stellte von 1886 bis 1928 hauptsächlich Fahrräder her. Erst in den darauffolgenden Jahren wurde die Produktion auf Mopeds, Mofas und Mokicks bis 200 ccm³ umgestellt.

Mit dem Pedalstartmitnehmer wird das Starterrad bewegt. Durch die Vorwärtsbewegung der Pedale wird der Mitnehmer auf das Starterrad geschoben. Dabei verkeilen sich die Zähne und die Bewegung wird zur Kurbelwelle weitergegeben. Passend ist der Startermitnehmer für die Sachs Motoren 50/2.
