In 1886/87 Carl Marschütz and his brother founded the "Nuremberg Velocipedfabrik Hercules". The production was initially designed for bicycles. From 1928 onwards, the production of motorcycles was worthwhile again and Hercules produced light motorcycles up to 200 cm³. When the production of motors started at Fichtel & Sachs in Schweinfurt in 1930, they were immediately used by Hercules.
