In 1886/87 Carl Marschütz founded the "Nuremberg Velocipede Factory Hercules" together with his brother. Production was initially focused on bicycles. From 1928, the production of motorbikes became profitable again and Hercules produced light motorbikes up to 200 cm³. When the production of engines began at Fichtel & Sachs in Schweinfurt in 1930, they were immediately used at Hercules.
