Der Auspuff ist bei Enduromaschinen überhalb der Radnabe angebaut, damit Schmutz und Wasser bei Fahrten im Gelände nicht gleich in den Auspuff gelangen. Dadurch ist die Abgasanlage und auch der Krümmer leicht noch oben angestellt, um eine perfekte Verbindung zwischen Krümmer und Auspuff herzustellen.
Hauptaufgabe ist es die Abgase möglichst schnell abzuleiten und ein zurückströmen in den Zylinder zu vermeiden. Bei Zweitaktmotoren ist er ein besonders wichtiges Bauteil, da er dazu beiträgt, dass sich im Abgassystem Druckschwingungen aufbauen, die zu einem sogenanten Nachladeeffekt führen mit dem der Zylinder besser befüllt wird und eine optimale Zylinderfüllung entstehen kann.
Hinweis: Um eine lange Lebensdauer zu gewährleisten ist eine mehrmals im Jahr durchzuführende Chrompflege mit geeigneten Mitteln unumgänglich.
